He graduated from Waseda University with a degree in English literature in 1923. Later he was sent to Oxford University where he majored in English literature (1937-1939).
He became professor at Toyama Higher School till he rejoined his alma mater as professor in 1935. Shotaro Oshima was conferred a doctorate, Doctor of Letters in 1952. Among his works are studies on Yeats' "English Literature and Poetic Imagination."
He was a member of PEN Club.
