Shozo Hayashiva was born in 1781.
A disciple of Karaku San-shotei.
Said to be the first story-teller who introduced ghost stories to vaudevilles. Also wrote novels. His ghost story, Harutsugu-dori, was a hit. When he died his friends and relatives cremated his body in accordance with his will. They were surprised at explosions which occurred during the cremation. Shozo had secretly worn firecrackers on his person as his final joke. This story is erroneously attributed to Ikku Jippensha, noted humorist in the Edo Period.
