Background
Shubun Li was born in 1450. He was said to have been a Chinese. According to Honcho Gashi (History of Japanese Painting) he came from China (Ming Dynasty) and was adopted by the Soga family and lived in Hida Province (Gifu Prefecture), being called Tojin (Chinese) Shubun. According to the Fiiso Meiko Gafu, his Chinese family name was Li and he married a daughter of one Asakura in Echizen Province (Fukui Prefecture).
