Shuken Sato was born in 1655 in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Studied under Shoken Goto.
He was asked by Lord Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa to serve for 100 koku a year, he took the advice of Shoken and served Lord Komuro of the Iwamura Clan at only 20 koku. Became tutor to his lord's eldest son. After the boy grew up to be a daimyo, he made Shuken his chief retainer. The lord later became a roju (Shogunate Minister) thanks to Shuken's assistance.
