Shukusuke Kozu was a Japanese geologist and professor of Tohoku University.

Background

Shukusuke Kozu was born on June 5, 1880 in Nagano Prefecture.

Education

In 1905, graduated from Geology Department of Tokyo University. He also studied in Germany, Austria, England and USA.

Career

Shukusuke Kozu served as an engineer of Agricultural & Commerce Ministry and lecturer of Tokyo University and in 1916, became a professor and trustee of Tohoku University.

Achievements

  • Shukusuke Kozu attended International Geological Conference and Pan-Pacific Science Conference.

    Shukusuke Kozu studied the igneous melting phenomenon. It became known worldwide as the study of Moonstone (gemstone) with X-rays. It also contributed to the establishment of the Japan Association Of Mineralogical Sciences and the Volcanological Society of Japan and pushed the modernization of petrology in Japan.
