He studied at the Sapporo Agricultural School, Fisheries Training Institute and Tokyo Semmon Gakko (predecessor of Waseda University).
He joined the Hakubunkan Publishing House and became editor-in-chief of its magazine Bolcen Sekai (World of Adventures). He wrote many stories of adventure including "The New Japanese Island," "The Submarine Battleship" and "The Great Flying Boat" which were well received by the younger generations in the Meiji and Taisho eras.
He was also noted as an athlete and led the Tengu Club and Japan Athletic Club.
