Positions held include: Assistant Director General of Health Services of India, New Delhi, India, 1966-1969.; Assistant Professor of Health Education and Population Planning (1969-1972) and Associate Professor (1973-1977) of Health Education and Population Planning at the University Michigan, Ann Arbor. At UCLA since 1978 Kar served as a full Professor Behavioral Sciences and Health Education (UCLA), the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), since 1978. -2011. At UCLA, served as the Division Head of Behavioral Sciences and Health Education( BSHE) -1981-1984; Professor of Population and Family Health (1969-2010); as the Associate Dean and Chairman of the Fielding School Public Health ( 1983-1989) and Professor Emeritus of Public Health and Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair since 2011- Present.. Served as a consultant to numerous governmental agencies, including United Nations Educational, Paris, 1972-1980, World Health Organization, Geneva, since 1978. Served as the Chairman of the Program Committee XIII World Conference Health, Education.
