Socho _

Background

Socho was a native of Shimada in Suruga Province (Shizuoka Prefecture). He was born in 1448.

Education

A high disciple of Sogi.

Career

He studied under Sogi for 40 years and bequeathed Sogi's art to posterity. He practiced meditation at the Daitokuji Temple in Kyoto under Priest Ikkyu, lived in a hermitage in the Daitokuji compound and later at the Saiokuken cottage in Suruga. Kabekusa is the name of the collection of his renga.
