Sodo Ishikawa entered a monastery and studied the tenets of Zen at an early age under such masters as Bun-o, Tomon, Kampo and others and then entered Taizoji Temple (1862).
Career
Later Sodo Ishikawa was a priest at SOJIJI Temple and then of Ryutenji Temple in Toyohashi (1885). When the Sojiji Temple burnt down, he worked hard for its restoration and insisted on removing n from Noto, Ishikawa Prefecture, to Tsurumi, Kana-gawa Prefecture, in the face of stiff opposition, and became its superintendent priest (1906). Later toured through the provinces, Formosa and Korea as a missionary of the Soto sect.
