Sofia Ivanovna studied at the Voronezh boarding house of Ts.I. Depner (1829-1834). Since 1834, after the death of her father, she began an independent life. In 1836, she left with her husband for Saint Petersburg. In 1838-1842 she lived in Astrakhan, then returned to Saint Petersburg.
Sofia Ivanovna was engaged in literary work (1848-1891), working as a translator in several magazines ("Library for Reading", "Collection of Foreign Novels", "Case and Rest", "Dawn" and others). The list of publications by Sofia Ivanovna, mainly translations, by 1877 totaled more than 700 titles.
In the 1860s she created a number of original works, mainly of spiritual content (description of the Saint Petersburg Resurrection Monastery, biographies of clergy and other works). The most famous book is Snesareva's "Earthly Life of the Holy Virgin Mary and a Description of Her Holy Miracle-working Icons" (Saint Petersburg, 1892), which has been reprinted many times in our time.
