Innokenty (Ivan Alekseevich Borisov) was born on December 15, 1800 in Yelets, Lipetsk Oblast, Russian Federation.
Innokenty was a rector of Alexander Nevsky Spiritual School (St. Petersburg, 1823-1824). In 1823 he took monastic vows. He was a professor (since 1824), inspector (since 1825) of St. Petersburg Theological Academy. Rector of Kiev Theological Academy (1830-1841). He was a member of the Holy Synod (since 1856).
Innokenty was close to many figures of Russian culture - Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, Stepan Petrovich Shevyrev, Mikhail Petrovich Pogodin and others. He is the author of many historical, church and preaching books included in the Collection of Innokentiy's Works (the most complete one is St. Petersburg, 1901; vol. 1-12).
He was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1997.
