Sojinkan Sugimura became an employee of the American Legation, but he won fame as a journalist after he joined the Tokyo Asahi Shimbun (newspaper) (1903).
He traveled abroad several times. He was acclaimed for his short comments and essays which were full of his keen observation. An authority on the science of journalism. Also wrote a novel, Urusaki Hitobito (Annoying People).
