Stanislao G. Pugliese was born on March 24, 1965 in New York City, New York, United States; the son of Angelo Pugliese, a carpenter, and Pasqualena (Curra) Pugliese, a sales associate.
Stanislao Pugliese graduated from Lawrence High School in 1983. He received a Bachelor in History and Philosophy from Hofstra University in 1987. Three years later he got a Master of Arts from City College of New York. Stanislao also holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree.
Stanislao Pugliese is a professor of modern European history and the Queensboro UNICO Distinguished Professor of Italian and Italian-American Studies. He is a Fellow of the Hofstra Cultural Center.
Pugliese is also the author, editor and translator of fifteen books. With Brenda Elsey, he is co-editor of Football and the Boundaries of History: Critical Studies on Soccer. With William J. Connell, he is co-editor of The Routledge History of Italian Americans. Among his popular books are Delirious Naples: A Cultural History of the City of the Sun, Answering Auschwitz, The Most Ancient of Minorities and others.
