Stefan Peter Krischok is a German physicist and university professor whose research concerns surface and interface science, semiconductor materials, ionic liquids, thin films, and sensor technologies. He has worked at the Clausthal University of Technology, Texas A&M University, and Technische Universität Ilmenau, where he leads research and teaches technical physics.
Background
Stefan Peter Krischok was born on June 4, 1972, in Blankenburg / Harz, Germany, to Norbert Karl and Ellen Elisabeth Krischok. His early life unfolded in Germany before he pursued university training in physics at the Clausthal University of Technology.
Education
Krischok studied physics at the Clausthal University of Technology from 1991 to 1997, receiving a Diploma in Physics. The university developed from the historic mining academy tradition of Clausthal and combines scientific education with strong links to engineering and materials research.
He continued at the Clausthal University of Technology, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 2001. During his doctoral work, he carried out substantial parts of his investigations at Texas A&M University in College Station, a major American research university with extensive programs in science and engineering.
In 2007 he completed his habilitation in experimental physics at Technische Universität Ilmenau. The university has a longstanding profile in engineering, communications, technology, and applied science, and its Institute of Physics works closely with the university's Micro- and Nanotechnologies center.
Career
Krischok began his scientific career at the Clausthal University of Technology, where he worked in scientific positions from 1997 to 1998 and again from 1999 to 2002. Between 1998 and 1999 he conducted research at Texas A&M University in College Station as part of the work associated with his doctoral studies. His early research used experimental methods to investigate surfaces, interfaces, and the electronic properties of materials.
In 2002 he joined Technische Universität Ilmenau as an assistant professor in Technical Physics I. The university's Institute of Physics is connected with the Center for Micro- and Nanotechnologies, an interdisciplinary environment devoted to research and education involving microsystems, nanostructures, semiconductor technologies, and related instrumentation. Krischok completed his habilitation in experimental physics at Ilmenau in 2007 and has led an independent research group on the surface physics of functional nanostructures since 2008.
His research has addressed the surface and interface properties of semiconductor materials, especially group-III nitrides, as well as ionic liquids, thin films, silicon-based materials, and sensor applications. His work has included photoelectron and electron-energy-loss spectroscopy, studies of surface reactions and charge accumulation, and investigations relevant to semiconductor devices, photovoltaics, and materials engineering.
In October 2014 he became a professor of technical physics at Technische Universität Ilmenau. He has also contributed to the university's teaching in technical physics and physics laboratory education, and has participated in research projects concerning semiconductor defects, silicon technology, nanostructures, and materials for sensors.
Krischok completed a habilitation in experimental physics at Technische Universität Ilmenau in 2007, establishing the academic qualification associated with independent university teaching and research in the German system.
Since 2008, Krischok has led a research group devoted to the surface physics of functional nanostructures, studying semiconductor surfaces, ionic liquids, and materials relevant to sensors and photovoltaic technologies.
He served as scientific coordinator of the PhotoGrad state graduate school for photovoltaics, which supported doctoral research on photovoltaic materials and technologies in Thuringia.

Membership
Krischok is associated with the German Physical Society's Thin Films division, a specialist organization for researchers working on the preparation, characterization, and application of thin films. He serves as leader of the division, which organizes professional exchange and scientific meetings in thin-film physics.
