Sten F. Rystedt

Background

Sten F. Rystedt was born in Östersund, Sweden, on 24 December 1924. He was the son of bank director Emil Rystedt and Svea, née Löf. His professional life developed between Swedish legal practice, corporate management and international legal work in London.

Education

Rystedt studied law at Uppsala University and received his jur.kand. degree in 1949. His legal education was followed by early judicial and legal appointments, providing the foundation for a career that later combined advocacy, corporate administration and executive responsibility.

Career

Rystedt began his professional career as a fiscal at the Svea Court of Appeal in 1952. In 1953 he became ombudsman for Indalsälvens vattenregleringsföretag in Stockholm. He joined Alrutz’ law firm in Stockholm as an associate lawyer in 1957, and was admitted to the Swedish Bar Association in 1958. From 1960 to 1966 he worked at Wifstavarfs AB, followed by a position with Rederi AB Nordstjernan from 1966 to 1973. In 1973 he became head of the group staff at Swedish Match AB and served as vice chief executive officer from 1977 to 1979. After returning to legal practice and being listed again as a member of the Swedish Bar Association in 1979, he joined Advokatfirman Carler in London in 1982, where he worked as a partner. His professional career combined courtroom and legal practice with senior corporate, administrative and executive responsibilities.

Rystedt was a member of the Swedish Bar Association, first admitted in 1958 and listed again from 1979. His membership accompanied a career that moved between Swedish legal practice, corporate management and international legal work in London.

In 1957 Rystedt married Ingela Strannegård, a physician and docent. She was the daughter of Magnus Strannegård and Nanna Strannegård.
