From 1907 member, Social of History and Russian Antiquities, Moscow University. 1917-1925 professor, Moscow University. 1929-1946 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
From 1936 senior associate, Institute of History, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. 1938-1941 prol, Historical Archives Institute. Also taught at Institute of History, Russian Association of Social Sciences Research Institutes and at Communist Lbiiv of Workers of the East.
Specialized in the soc, economics and political history of 14th—17th century Russia. Compiled numerous anthologies of archive records on these subjects. In late 1940’s was criticized by Party for alleged methodical errors and for underestimating the national factor in the formation of the Russian state.
