2012 Bolden was challenged by former Representative Arthur L. Scott in the September 11, 2012 Democratic Primary, winning with 1,400 votes (621%), and was unopposed for the November 6, 2012 General election, winning with 6,253 votes. 2010 Bolden challenged incumbent Democratic Representative Hazel Plant in the District 2 September 17, 2010 Democratic Primary, winning with 676 votes (512%), and was unopposed for the November 2, 2010 General election, winning with 4,485 votes.
Bolden was a ten-year member of the Wilmington City Council, served a term as its president pro tempore, and is a member of the Delaware Black Caucus.
