Cook did his undergraduate work at Trinity College, where he graduated with honours as a religion major. He then did master of divinity and up to PhD at Yale in the studies of the Old Testament which he passes with Distinction.

Cook did his undergraduate work at Trinity College, where he graduated with honours as a religion major. He then did master of divinity and up to PhD at Yale in the studies of the Old Testament which he passes with Distinction.
Cook worked in advertising and for a greeting card company in Missouri, he was also a freelance illustrator. After this Cook served on the faculty of Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University. He served as an instructor at Yale and became a fellow.
Cook has served in several roles, such as an officer of the Society of Biblical Literature. Recently He acquired the position as a Regional Coordinator for the guild. He is also the Corporation Representative for Virginia Seminary to the American Schools of Oriental Research.
Stephen Loyd cook was a member of the Anglican Association of Biblical Scholars and the Catholic Biblical Association.
He is married to Catherine and they have a daughter
