Stephen studied at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, United States. In 1960 he became a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. In two year he was a student of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. He received a degree of the Master of Science in the area of Chemical Engineering. In 1976 Stephen studied at Rutgers University. He became a Doctor of Philosophy.
From 1962 to 1967 Stephen worked as a research engineer in the M.W. Kellogg Company in Piscataway, New Jersey, United States. In 1967 he became a technical manager of the Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Clinton, New Jersey, United States. He worked there until 1996. From 1977 to 1984 Stephen was a chairman of various project committees at the United States Department of Energy.
In 1978 Stephen was an organizer, symposium chairman at the National Thermodynamics Conference. Stephen worked as a consultant at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, United States in 1979. In a year he worked in the Panel National Academy of Sciences. He worked there for two years. In 1981 he worked at the World Congress of Chemical Engineering in Montreal, Canada. In three year he worked in the CODATA Congress in Jerusalem, Israel. From 1996 to 1999 he worked as a principal engineer of the Kvaerner Process in Bridgewater, New Jersey, United States. Since 1999 he worked as a consultant engineer, clients have included ABB Lummus Global in Bloomfield, New Jersey, United States and Kvaerner Process in Bridgewater, New Jersey, United States.
