Pearce, Stephen Austen was born on November 7, 1836 in Brompton, Kent, England. Son of Stephen and Elizabeth (Austen) Pearce.

Education

Bachelor of Music, Oxford, 1859, Doctor of Music, 1864.

Career

Came to the United States, 1872. Organist for several chs., New York City. Instructor in vocal music Columbia, 1878-1879.

Lecturer on harmony New York College of Music, General Theological Seminary, Peabody Institute, Johns Hopkins University. Gave numerous organ recitals, New York City. Considered by many to be best organist of his time.

Musical editor New York Evening Post, 1874-1900.
