In 1983 Steven received Bachelor of Arts at Brown University. After that he earned Master of Arts at Harvard University in 1985, and Doctor of Philosophy there in 1990.
Steven Biel has been Executive Director of the Humanities Center since July 2005. He is also Senior Lecturer in History and Literature, where he served as Director of Studies from 1999 to 2006. Steven is the author of "American Gothic: A Life of America's Most Famous Painting", "Down with the Old Canoe: A Cultural History of the Titanic Disaster", and "Independent Intellectuals in the United States, 1910-1945", and the editor of "American Disasters" and "Titanica: The Disaster of the Century in Poetry, Song, and Prose." Steven is also a contributor to periodicals, including TV Guide.
On June 23, 1990, Steven married an attorney Jean Rolling, with whom he has two children, Jacob and Olivia.
