He grew up in Queens, New York, the only son of Sal and Arline DiSalvo. He was raised and educated as a Catholic. His last appointment before joining Saint Anselm in July 2013, was as president of Marian University in Wisconsin, during which time he was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU).
On March 25, 2015, Doctor DiSalvo was elected to the New England Council Board of Directors.
