Career
Studied bacteriology under Shibasaburo Kitazato. Went to Germany and, together with Dr. Ehrlich, discovered salvarsan (1909). After returning to Japan, he became a member of the Kitazato Bacteriological Research Institute and professor at Keio University. Was a member of many academic organizations. Well-known also as an authority on tropical diseases.
