He was a Jane Coffin Childs Fellow with Doctor Paul Berg at Stanford University. He was the recipient of a Searle Scholar Award, an National Cancer Institute Research Career Development Award, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He served as the Interim Dean of the Division of Biological Sciences between 2006-2007.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and the recipient of an National Institutes of Health Medical Relief International Award.
He is currently a Distinguished Professor in the Section of Molecular Biology at University of California, San Diego and the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
A highly distinguished cell and molecular biologist, Doctor Subramani has been a member of the University of California San Diego faculty since 1981.
