She continued her studies in composition at the Liege Conservatory in Belgium with Henri Pousseur and at Yale with Jacob Druckman and Betsy Jolas. After completing her education, she took a position as assistant professor at Columbia University. She was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1987.
