Susan Brown

Career

After spells at Durham and Newcastle, she moved to University College London in 1964. She became a professor in 1986, and possibly the first female professor in applied mathematics in the United Kingdom. Her most famous work was in the theoretical aspects of fluid dynamics. She retired in 2003 and became emeritus professor

Achievements

• She won a first at the University of Oxford, and completed her doctorate there on theoretical fluid mechanics in 1959–1964.
