Quotations: “I write to gain understanding and to communicate with others about what I consider important. 1 am a sociologist, and I long to understand people. Most of my writing has been about relationships, with the hope of encouraging care and compassion in a society that grants little time or reward for such qualities and acts. Showing good relationships is far more compelling than describing them, so, though my writing is nonfiction, it is thick with narrative. I delight and indulge in reading fiction, which helps me understand people but, alas, my gifts, calling, and skills are not in that sort of writing."
Susan has been a member of American Sociological Association, American Academy of Religion, Society of Biblical Literature.
Susan married Raborn Stephens Phillips on July 12, 1975. Susan S. Phillips has 2 children: Andrew Stephens, Peter Sanders.
