Ramírez was born on April 25, 1955 in New York City, New York, United States; the daughter of Robert M. and Dorothy Ann (Retallack) B.
Brill de Ramírez received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Wisconsin in 1977. A year later she earned her Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Chicago. Also Susan was given a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin. In 1991, she received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Literary Criticism and Theory, United States multicultural literatures and 17th century literature from the University of New Mexico.
Brill de Ramírez began her career as an assistant professor at Bradley University in 1991. Six years later she became an associate professor of English at the same university. Since 2003 Susan was a professor of English at Bradley University. Nowadays she is a Caterpillar Professor of English and coordinator of graduate studies at that university.
