Susan Calhoon Straley, American Microbiologist. Achievements include demonstration that Yersina pestis can grow within phagolysosomes of macrophages; discovery that regulation of virulence gene expression by environmental calcium concentrations operates at the transcriptional level and results in strong induction when the bacteria are associated with macrophages. Member American Society Microbiology, Phi Beta Kappa.
