Sviatoslav Proshin graduated from Working Youth School (1948), studied at the Voronezh Veterinary Institute (1949–1950), graduated from the Department of Literature of the Voronezh State Pedagogical Institute (1954), and the Department of Scriptwriting of the All-Russian State University of Cinematography (1960).
In the 1960s Sviatoslav Mikhailovich lived in Minsk, shot various documentaries (particularly, about Belarusian partisans during the Great Patriotic War). In the early 1970s, he was the director of art programs on the Voronezh television. Later Sviatoslav Mikhailovich lived in Moscow, worked as a director of documentary films.
Sviatoslav Mikhailovich is the author of about 10 books, including novels: "I forgot about silence" (Minsk, 1963), "Sow the wind ..." (Moscow, 1980), "The hand of the giver will not become scanty" (Moscow, 1989).
