Taigi Sumi was one of the most famous poets of Japan of the XVIII century. He wrote under the influence of Chinese poetry elegant lyrical poems about love. Reputed to be one of the best hailm poets after Basho Matsuo.

Career
He began to practice poetry since 1736. By 1750, Taigi was a recognized professional poet in Tokyo. He became close friends with the poets of the circle of Buson and with them took an active part in the movement for the revival of poetry "haikai".
