Takeo Kawai was born in 1887. Originally named Takejiro Uchiyama. He was the son of Baju Otani.

Takeo Kawai was a disciple of Danjuro Ichikawa IX.

Career

Takeo Kawai made his stage debut at the early age of seven as an actor with the Yamaguchi Theatrical Troupe. Later developed into a great actor, specializing in impersonating women.

Achievements

• Together with Yoho Ii and Rokuro Kitamura, was considered amongst the three greatest actors of that time.
