Takeo Kuwabara was born in Fukui Prefecture. He was the eldest son of Dr. Jitsuzo Kuwabara.

In 1928, Takeo Kuwabara graduated from Kyoto University with a degree in French literature.
After graduating from Kyoto University (1928) with a degree in French literature, he was appointed professor first at Otani College, then at Osaka Foreign Languages College and became professor at his alma mater (since 1948).
His book on poetry titled "Haiku - A Second-Rate Art" created a sensation in literary circles (1947). Another of his book "Introduction to Literature" is a best seller.
Takeo Kuwabara was a member of Cultural Science Research Institute of his university.
