Takeo Tanaka was born in 1888 in Hyogo Prefecture.
Served as private secretary to Mitsugu Sengoku, Railway Minister. Elected member of the House of Representatives seven times.
He was Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Overseas Affairs and after the war became Minister of Transportation in the Shidehara Cabinet (1946). Was involved in the so-called "Tempura Goten" Case (1947) in which he was indicted for violating the Emergency Food Measures Ordinance.
