Tamejiro Suzuki was born in 1883 in Aichi, Japan.
After graduating from Keihoku Middle School, Tokyo, became a pupil of Hon-imbo, the famous go champion (1906) and was immediately conferred san clan (3rd grade).
Tamejiro Suzuki migrated to Singapore where he kept a rubber plantation (1912). After returning home was conferred the 6th grade in 1921. The following year, together with Segoshi and Karigane, organized the Hiseikai. Later he left this organization to join Nihon Kiin and was promoted to 8th grade.
His 10-round go game with Taketomo Nozawa (7th grade holder) was a memorable event in the history of go. Among his pupils are such distinguished go players as Kitani, Sekiyama and Shimamura. He was a president of Nihon Kiin (Japan Go Association). Publication: "The Encyclopedia of Go."
