He began life as a priest at the Oasahiko Shrine. When Basil Hall Chamberlain brought out his "Little Japanese Grammar" he was asked by the Ministry of Education to criticize it which he did in "Comments in Little Grammar." His theory was minute and precise, and distinguished for its orderliness of thought.
