Tanomo Takemoto was born around 1700 in Osaka, Japan.
Originally an oil dealer in Osaka where he was born, he rose to become a gifted Gidayu reciter of the Edo Period.
He made his first appearance on the stage of the Takemotoza Theater (1684) and won instant fame with his melodious voice. He is credited as the composer of the 4th chapter of Kokusenyakassen, which is considered one of the greatest compositions. He retired from public life (1720) after which nothing is known of him.
