In 1988 Tara Parker-Pope received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
From 1987 to 1990 Tara Parker-Pope was a reporter for Austin American-Statesman. From 1990 to 1992 she served as a reporter for Houston Chronicle. From 1992 to 1993 Parker-Pope worked as a reporter with Texas Journal, a regional edition of the Wall Street Journal, and a marketing reporter from 1993 to 1996.
From 1999 to 2007 she was a health journal columnist at Wall Street Journal. Since 2007 Parker-Pope has been a Wellness columnist and founding editor of Well, the consumer health vertical for the New York Times. In 2017 she was the Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University.
Her books include Cigarettes: Anatomy of an Industry from Seed to Smoke (2001), HRT: Everything You Need to Know to Untangle the Controversy, Understand your Options and Make Your Own Choices (2007), and For Better: How the Surprising Science of Happy Couples Can Help Your Marriage Succeed (2010).
Tara Parker-Pope is best known as the author of Cigarettes: Anatomy of an Industry from Seed to Smoke and For Better: How the Surprising Science of Happy Couples Can Help Your Marriage Succeed. Her works received high praise from critics. In 2013 Parker-Pope received an Emmy Award for the Well video series "Life, Interrupted," which chronicled the challenges of a young cancer patient in her 20s.
