Studied Japanese and Chinese classics at the school of the Uwajima Clan.
Career
Went to Tokyo (1879) and became instructor of classics at Tokyo University and the Men's and Women's Higher Normal Schools. Was an accomplished singer of yokyoku (Noh play chanting).
