Sister of L. Tolstoy’s wife, and the prototype of Natasha Rostova in War and Peace. Close to Tolstoy during his life-time, herself started writing in the 1880s, encouraged by her famous brother-in-law. After the revolution, settled in Yasnaia Poliana, 1919, and became the guardian of the Tolstoy family traditions.
Her memoirs Moia Zhizri doma i v Yasnoi Poliane are one of the best sources of the life of L. Tolstoy and his household in the 1860s.
