Tatsuo Satomi was born in 1895 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
Graduated from Shukyo Daigaku (University of Religion) (1917).
He was a director of Sect Affairs Department of the same office and then as chief of Bureau of Buddhism of Nihon Shukyokai (Japan Society of Religions) and thereafter became superintendent and chief priest of Hogenji Temple of Jodo Sect of Buddhism (since 1947). Dai-sojo (Archbishop) of the same sect.
Held additional posts of president and principal of Shutoku Junior College, High School, Middle School and Kindergarten, councilor of Zojoji Cathedral, chief director of Tokyo Yoroin (Tokyo Old People's Home) and director of Bukkyo Rengokai (League of Buddhist Organizations).
