Teinosuke Tanabe graduated from Tokyo University (1928).
He was in succession instructor of Gyosei Middle School, Tsudajuku College, Urawa Higher School, and assistant professor at the Cultural Department of Tokyo University after the war. He was noted for his postwar translations of Maupassant, Chateaubriand, Gautier Saint-Pierre and Bourget. In the field of linguistics translated Mansion's "Modern French Grammar."
