Tenko Toyoda was born in 1805 in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan.
Tenko Toyoda was a disciple of Yiikoku Fujita, till his scholarly talents were recognized by the Lord of Mito Clan, Nariaki Tokugawa, and was appointed a member of Shokokan (historical research institute of Mito Clan) and entrusted with the task of compiling Dai-Nihonshi (History of Great Japan). In association with his friend Toko, son of Yiikoku, he completed writing the doctrines of the Mito school.
