Tenne Kogon was the eldest son of Emperor Gofushimi and Empress Yasuko Fujiwara (Kogi Monin), and was originally named Tokihito.

Tenne Kogon was installed Crown Prince through the support of the Hojo family (1326). When Emperor Godaigo was exiled to Mount Kasagi he ascended the throne (1332) but reigned for only a year and nine months, since the power of the Hojo family had been destroyed and Emperor Godaigo had returned to Kyoto. Tenne was for Prince Toyohito ascending the throne. After being deposed he became a priest.
