Emperor Tsuchimikado was born on January 3, 1195 in Japan. He was the son of Emperor Gotoba and Empress Ariko Minamoto.
Tennō Tsuchimikado was eighty-third Emperor. He ascended the throne. Then he abdicated and as such took no part in the Jokyu Incident which was aimed to destroy the power of the Shogunate. Although not involved he insisted on sharing the consequences together with his father and so was exiled first to Tosa (Kochi Prefecture) and then to Awa (Tokushima Prefecture).
His family included three sons by three different consorts.
