Giffel, Terry Clyde was born on September 4, 1945 in Terre Haute, Indiana, United States. Son of Harold H. and Ruth (Barnes) Giffel.

Master of Science, Indiana State University, 1970;

Terry Giffel began his career in 1967 as an industrial arts teacher in Nashville, Ohio's Brown County High School. In this role, he taught courses in drafting, graphic arts, and shop math. After completing one year at Brown, Giffel decided to pursue graduate study at Indiana State University. The Audio Visual Center soon hired Giffel to work as a media lab coordinator, which also included him teaching lab sections of audio visual education. In 1970, after completing his master's degree, Giffel sought full-time employment. He was soon hired by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, to work as a media specialist for the campus. Giffel thrived in this role. He designed instructional media for faculty and students, operated a campus-wide self instruction facility, and taught media courses. Eventually, Giffel realized that he wanted to pursue a Ph.D. He was accepted into the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and completed the terminal degree in 1976. Later that year, Giffel began a thirty-year tenure at East Stroudsburg University. Over the years, he developed and taught multiple courses in educational media, photography, and computing. Giffel, along with his colleagues, developed curriculum for an associate degree program, a bachelors degree program, a minor, and a master's degree program. Many of the courses that Giffel created are still part of the curriculum today. He also served as a consultant for various school districts and colleges. Giffel retired in May, 2006.
