David Campbell spent thirty-five years teaching courses in media, communication, and technology at both the high school and university levels. Beginning as a high school speech teacher in Columbus, Ohio, he left teaching after three years to pursue a graduate degree at Indiana University. He then spent two years at Clarion University and thirty years at East Stroudsburg University, both in Pennsylvania.
Education
Campbell completed his K-12 education in the Galion Ohio schools, graduating from Galion High School in 1959. He then went to Bowling Green State University where he dual-majored in Speech and English, was instrumental in developing the campuses television production program, and produced closed-circuit instructional television programs. He graduated in 1964 and was also inducted into the Rho Sigma Mu honorary. After three years of teaching, Campbell pursued a graduate degree in Audio-Visual Communications at Indiana University, completing the degree in 1968. He completed doctoral coursework at the Pennsylvania State University and Teacher's College, Columbia University.
In addition to dual majoring in Speech and English at Bowling Green State University, Campbell was certified to teach both subjects. He began his career in Columbus, Ohio, teaching speech and English at Linden-McKinley High School. After his first year, Campbell relocated to his hometown of Galion, Ohio, where he taught high school English for two years. Realizing that he wanted to teach at the college level, he pursued his graduate degree from Indiana University, graduating in 1968. Months later, he was appointed to the Communication Division faculty at Clarion State College in Pennsylvania. He spent two years there before moving to East Stroudsburg University, where he spent the next 30 years of his career and made many notable contributions.
