Tetsu Okuhara studied at the University of Chicago (1958-1960) and at Cooper Union in New York City (1970).
A freelance photographer, the artist has been the recipient of two CAPS grants (1975, 1973) and a Guggenheim Fellowship (1974). In 1968 he was the cinematographer on the feature film Sex Circus.
