Theodore Binnema graduated from Calvin College, and he got there a Bachelor of Arts in 1985. Theodore attended the University of Alberta, and he got a Master of Arts in 1992. Also, he got there a Doctor of philosophy in 1998.
Theodore Binnema wrote several books in which he explores various aspects of environmental history, aboriginal history, and the history of science. He is the author of "Common and Contested Ground," in which Theodore examines the human and environmental history of the northwestern plains of North America from 200 to 1806. With Gerhard Ens of the University of Alberta, he published "The Hudson's Bay Company Edmonton House Journals, Correspondence, and Reports: 1821-1826." Theodore Binnema also was a co-edited two collections of original articles, "New Histories for Old: Changing Perspectives on Canada's Native Pasts" and "From Rupert's Land to Canada." He has also published many scholarly articles, including articles in "Environmental History," "The Canadian Historical Review," "Journal of the Early Republic," "Western Historical Quarterly," and "The Journal of Canadian Studies."
Theodore Binnema taught English and social studies at high school for several years. Since 2000 he has been teaching at the University of Northern British Columbia in the fields of Canadian and United States history, aboriginal history, and environmental history. Also, he is a Department Chair.
