Alchemical Psychology: Old Recipes for Living in a New World
(Alchemical practices have been reborn in our contemporary...)
Alchemical practices have been reborn in our contemporary world under the rubric of Jungianism, transpersonal psychology, or depth psychology. But in Alchemical Psychology, Thom F. Cavalli, Ph.D., takes us directly to the source - and on a wonderful adventure into the true nature of our hearts and minds. In a book that sparkles with verve, life, and practicality, Dr. Cavalli explains how alchemy was one of humankind’s earliest efforts to transform the nature of consciousness. What little-known or underground arts did alchemists practice in pursuit of self-transformation - and how can they enrich us today.
Embodying Osiris: The Secrets of Alchemical Transformation
(The modern Western movement to embrace Eastern spiritual ...)
The modern Western movement to embrace Eastern spiritual traditions usually stops with India and the Orient. Westerners have yet to discover the wisdom that dates back even further to ancient Egypt. With a Jungian perspective, clinical psychologist Dr. Thom F. Cavalli plumbs that wisdom through the myth of Osiris, the green-skinned Egyptian god of vegetation and the Underworld. As no one else has done, Cavalli draws on Osiris’s death and resurrection as a guide to spiritual transformation.
Thom Frank Cavalli is a practicing Jungian psychologist, artist, author, teacher, and psychological alchemist. He has authored two books on alchemical psychology: Alchemical Psychology: Old Recipes for Living in a New World and Embodying Osiris: The Secrets of Alchemical Transformation.

When the family had achieved solid middle-class status and Thom Frank was ready to leave home, his parents divorced and the young boy took on paternal responsibilities at the age of nineteen.
Education
Thom attended Jesuit elementary school in Brooklyn where he was beaten by nuns and Jesuit brothers. To forget the old memories of abuse and to abstract himself from the Vietnam war that reached a feverish pitch, Cavalli immersed in art.

The year before receiving his master's degree in clinical psychology, Cavalli managed to take on the position of research assistant at Veterans Administration Hospital in La Jolla. That was followed by Cavalli's appointment to an outpatient counselor at the Community Resources and Self-Help Incorporation. He worked there till 1978.

Quotations:
"Healing is brought about through building a trusting relationship."
"I have a special interest in people's individuation - how they use their inner strengths to meet life's challenges."
"August 15, 1947 was a remarkable day. It is gratifying to know that I share my birthday with some very special people and significant events. This is the day that, after many years of reluctance, the Catholic Church elected to celebrate the Assumption of Mary, as an annual reminder of the feminine aspect of the Holy Trinity. The Swiss psychiatrist C. G. Jung took particular notice and wrote of the significance this doctrinal change would have for a great many people. Jung, like myself, was born under the sign of Leo, symbolic of the masculine, solar energy. Having Mary added to my natal astrology is therefore a very welcome addition. Throughout my life, I have devoted myself to bringing the feminine into full conscious realization."
